What is Yammer you might be asking? It’s essentially a social network for your organisation. Yammer only allows users to connect if they have an email address with your companies domain (although you can grant access to others should you wish). If youโre a Microsoft Enterprise Agreement customer, you can activate Yammer Enterprise for free. (as per this article). While there is the option to use Yammer with On Premise D365 and older versions of CRM, this article will focus on using Yammer with D365 Online. Out of the box, D365 has the activity walls which can usually be found on the main form of an entity, and also by navigating to the What’s New section from the Sales area. Using the wall, users can post messages to one another and share updates with the organisation.
Adding Yammer hides the posts option and instead embeds Yammer feeds directly in D365. To get started, head to Settings>System>Administration. Click on Yammer configuration.
You will be presented with this screen. Click continue.
The configuration screen provides you with more detail. One thing to note, Yammer is currently only available in English. You will also need administrative permissions on the related Yammer network to complete the required steps. It also notes that if you set up the Yammer integration it will replace the activity feeds. Keep this in mind if you have already amassed a lot of historical data using the posts functionality in D365.
Once you click on the link for step one, you will be prompted to log in with your Yammer account. This should find you based on already being logged in to D365. Click Allow.
You can set up groups in Yammer allowing you to have conversations on different subjects in a more controlled way. If you have a specific Group you wish to use in D365 you can add the group id. Leaving that field empty will just use the main feed in Yammer.
Once it’s all configured, you will now see Yammer on the Activity Wall. Each user will see a link to sign in with their Yammer account.
Within Yammer users can view and contribute to conversations. The Yammer mobile app is really good, so users on the road can keep up with everything and share updates even if they aren’t logged in to D365.
The same can be seen in D365. It’s really just embedded Yammer in to the activity wall. Yammer allows the use of emojis, images and gifs which adds a nice touch to the activity feed (that is if you love emojis ๐ ).
A user can then respond and tag other users in their post.
If you are using the activity wall on an entity form you can post from there also, and link to the record. You can also tag another group so it only updates there within Yammer.
Finally, you can display the activity wall on a Dashboard, making it the first thing users see when they log in to D365. Below you can see a quick survey being displayed, asking for feedback.
If used right, Yammer can be a powerful tool within your organisation. Employees can be kept up to date on deals being won, new initiatives, provide feedback and guidance to one another and help build relationships. If you aren’t already using it, it’s well worth checking out.

Thank you for the walkthrough on Yammer-D365 configuration. I have been using Yammer -D365 quite frequently in my organization. However, one challenge that I face while using yammer is that currently, we can post yammer messages from Accounts, Leads and Opportunity records. The Business requirement which I am currently working on is to have a Yammer message posted from the Order/Invoice record itself. Kindly advise if this is possible ?
Hi Prasanna, have you tried it out and found it not to exist for Orders and Invoices? I haven’t seen anything in Microsoft documentation that says you CAN’T use Yammer feeds on those records, but the only way to know 100% would be to test it on those entities. That would tell you 100% if it’s possible! If you go to Settings, then the Activity Feeds Configuration area, you can see if Order and Invoice have been enabled.
